How to Remove Ink From Carpet

It’s no secret that carpets take a lot of wear and tear – and not just from dirty shoes. Spills and accidents can happen at any time, especially if you have kids or pets. Knowing how to get rid of those stains can be challenging, but using the correct cleaning method will help you get your carpet clean. Today, we’ll talk about how to remove ink from the carpet. Keep reading for a simple step-by-step guide.

Step 1: Blot

As soon as you notice an ink spill, take a rag or soft cloth to blot the spill. The goal is to soak up as much ink as possible without making it spread. Use as many pieces of cloth as you need to dab up the fresh ink spill. If you don’t have any rags you don’t mind getting ink-stained, you can use paper towels. Fold one up several times so that it is thick and absorbent.

If you don’t have any paper towels either, use any soft cloth. Keep in mind that repairing a stained carpet is a lot more expensive than replacing a few kitchen towels, and the sooner you can blot up the ink, the more likely you are to prevent staining.

Step 2: Soak

Now that you’ve blotted up all of the excess ink from the carpet, take some rubbing alcohol and pour it over the lingering stain. Leave it to soak for about ten minutes. If you don’t have rubbing alcohol or denatured alcohol, a lacquer-based hairspray will do the trick. Give the ink a few sprays and leave it to soak.

Step 3: Scrub

After you’ve allowed your alcohol or hairspray to soak the ink stain for ten minutes, it’s time to scrub the stain away. The best tool for this small job is a toothbrush, but a small carpet scrub brush will also work.

You’ll have to get up close and personal with the carpet for this step. Pull the piles away by hand to reach your scrubbing tool down to the base of the carpet. Sprinkle a little bit more alcohol on the stain if you need some moisture for the scrubbing.

Step 4: Blog

Most of the ink should be removed or at least loosened off the carpet by now. Take a warm damp cloth and blot the area again to soak up loose ink. Again, you may need to separate the piles to dab in between them. Keep using more towels or rags to blot up the oil and completely remove all the ink.
