How To Remove Pet Stains and Odors From Your Carpet

It’s sometimes inevitable that accidents happen, especially with our pets. If your pet causes stains and odors in your carpet, it’s not the end of the world. Here are a few easy ways you can clean the mess and remove pet stains and odor from your carpet.

Try a Homemade Solution

Many people use homemade cleaners for their everyday cleaning use. These cleaners are often safer and work better than some store cleaners. But before putting any homemade cleaners on your carpet it is important to test it on just a small corner to make sure it is not too strong and won’t ruin your carpet. It is also important to not rub the solution hard into the carpet. This could result in pushing the stain and odor further into the carpet.

There are a few different homemade solutions you can try to remove stains and odors from your carpet.

Baking Soda and Vinegar

Cover the stained area of your carpet with vinegar and some baking soda on top of that. Cover the stain with a towel so that no one steps on it and leave it for 1-2 days. When its time to clean it up, scoop up the dry baking soda and rinse the area with water. Once again, don’t rub it dry, try to blot it dry with a towel.

Dishwashing Detergent

Combine a quarter teaspoon of dishwashing detergent with a cup of warm water. Mix them together and put them in a spray bottle. Spray on the stain and let it sit for a couple of minutes. Repeat a few times until the stain is removed and dry it with a towel.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Mix 4 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide, 2 tablespoons of warm water, and a few drops of dish soap. Spray on the stain and leave it for a few minutes then rinse and dry with a towel. Once again, do this as many times as needed until the stain is removed.

Use A Store-Bought Stain and Odor Remover

If you don’t feel like making your own homemade solution, no big deal, buy one from the store! Make sure to buy a solution that is not harmful and non-toxic for your pets. Before using the store-bought solution, try to just use water to get rid of most of the stain. Then spray a little of the solution on the stain. Leave it for a few minutes before rinsing and towel drying it.
