While there are many things to rejoice about this season there is one thing that will be around during this season and that is dirt getting into your home and on your carpet or rug. Here are a few tips and tricks to keep your carpets clean this fall.

Get Your Carpets Professionally Cleaned

Common sense we know but in addition to emergency situations such as stains, you should have your carpet professionally cleaned at least once a year. Some manufacturers recommend you get an annual cleaning in order to maintain your warranty. Professionals have the tools and equipment necessary to extend the life of your carpet as well as remove any stain that may occur.

Blot Stains, Don’t Rub

When it comes to stains on a rug or carpet, everyone’s first instinct is to rub it out. However, this method actually causes the stain to go further and further into the carpet making it much harder to clean. No matter the spill, get cleaning material on a cloth and simply blot the stain and you will see them start to go away.

Club Soda

First instinct on a spill is soap and water, but a little secret weapon for cleaning is club soda. When blotting a stain with club soda, you are giving yourself a higher success rate to get your stain removed no matter the substance, even wine. When blotting, you will want to start outward then moved inward as the other way will spread the stain even more. For extra strength, add vinegar and water to the mix of your club soda.

Shaving Cream

Wait what, shaving cream? Yes, shaving cream is another solution you can use to blot away your stain and it works great! As with club soda, to give extra strength to you cleaning solution, add a mix of vinegar and water after using shaving cream for the finishing touches.

Candle Wax

When it comes to the brisk Fall night nothing sounds more soothing than a relaxing book or moving by candlelight. When this happens we run the risk of getting wax on carpets and rugs, which will be hard to get out as wax dries up more quickly. If you happen to get wax on either a carpet or rug there is a simple solution to consider. Try heating up the wax again with a clothes iron to remove the wax. Put a thick cloth on the wax, place the iron on the cloth and the wax will come right off. Be sure to not do this for more than 30 seconds as you can cause burning of your carpet or rug!
